| So.... Comic Con |
| Sunday, 12 August 2007 | |
So Comic Con was a blast a few weeks ago. It was actually my first time there for almost all 5 days. I had my professional pass and went and browsed around almost all the booths, but theres so much stuff, you sorta have to go with a plan of attack. Looking in the autograph schedule, I saw Bladerunner, and got excited. Well my excitement lasted only as long until I got up to the table and found out they were charging like 20$ per signature. In the program for Comic Con it states they aren't supposed to charge you for signatures. They however may charge you for a print they may have for sale, but they have to sign your program and/or if you bring a personal item, for free.
They Cannot ask for payment for their signature. Well I am not the richest guy in the world but to shell out 20$ per....it almost broke me. So I get to the first guy, the guy who played Eldon Tyrrell, Joe Turkell; and I asked him to sign my CD booklet for the soundtrack. He started signing it and said"20 bucks". I said what? it says in the booklet your not supposed to charge for signatures, he got all frustrated and said whatever thats fine. Next was James Hong, who played Chew, "eyes...I just make eyes...". He was a nice guy but also wanted 20$ but i told him I only had 13$ and he took it....next was Johanna Cassidy. She was just a bitch. I said the other two guys got all my money and I said will you sign my book, and she said "for 20$". I sighed and asked "If I come back with 20$ can I just come back thru the exit and not wait in line?". and she said yea....so I go to the autograph booth where the Con Employees are, and ask them about it, about being charged for autographs. Apparently there was a guy right behind me who piped in, "yea I got outta line because I found out they were charging too". So the lady asked me to come with her and point out who it was. I didn't wanna raise a big stink and look lick a dork, but it did say in the program they aren't supposed to charge. Anyway I showed her and she went and got the "manager" for that particular signing, who I guess is not affiliated with Comic Con, and so I popinted to the line in the program that stated they can't charge for signatures. He said that not part of their contract, and I said well someones lying and this is misleading. So anyway he said the program they have to sign and I can ask them to sign my CD Booklet, but they can refuse if they find it "offensive". I laughed and pulled out he CD artwork and said, "OFFENSIVE?!?!?!" Ok, whatever man....so I go and pull out $20, and then break it into a 10, a 5, and 5 1's....I go back there adn ask Johanna Cassidy if she will sign it for 13$ cause thats all I had. She looked at me and then the girl sitting next to her and she said, "movie stars have bills too you know...". She started to reluctantly sign it when I asked if I could take a picture of her signing it, to which she replied: "Boy your just pushing your luck today aren't you?". My Jaw dropped and I looked at her adn said "are you serious?"... I snapped the picture to the left of her trying to have a fake smile. She was an utter bitch. I took the artwork back, and handed her my card and said "Here's my card, I'm a photographer who specilizes in old Hollywood styles b/w...take a look at my website sometime and check out my stuff, and if you like it I'll photo you for free. Hows that for a trade?", and smiled. She took the card and smiled that fake smile and turned her head down, because she know I was right, and that they shouldn't be signing stuff for a charge. Personally, I don't have a ton of money to have them signing stuff, I am a HUGE fan of the Bladerunner movie. I feel like we're their "adoring" fans, who support them by watching the movies they make and sometimes buying the movie. And they give us this crap? I honestly didn't want to go back and have the others sign my artwork, because I was too embarassed by them and the way they treated me. However on a lighter note, the Ultimate Collectors Edition is coming out soon.Readers have left 3 comments. 1. Untitled Daniel Stafford, Registered A lot of Celebs are a bit jerkish at Comic Con, but some are rather nice and appreciate any and all fans. Like when I met and got an autograph from Bill Plympton. ![]() Posted 2007-08-11 16:00:07 2. Untitled gus, Registered Wow, that's some crap. They're riding the tail of a nearly 30 year old movie and have the nerve to be snobs? Unfortunate. Posted 2007-08-11 23:30:34 3. Untitled darkman, Super Administrator yea it really turned me off...it sucked because you would think the two men there have been in ALOT of movies, and should be rich enough to not have to charge 20$ for a signature.
